Heavy eyeliner wearers and early emo punk enthusiasts are thrilled to hear that punk band My Chemical Romance will be returning to the music scene. The band is having a reunion show at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the Shrine Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.
The announcement was made on Instagram on Thursday and received tons of reactions from old fans waiting on the return of once-retired group.
The group was known for its punk sound and rock opera albums. The first album, “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love,” was released in 2002. Later, the band released an album of scratched singles called “Conventional Weapons,” weeks before the split was official.
The band announced its split on March 22, 2013, after the group decided that it was time to move on.
In an interview with BBC Radio 1, frontman Gerard Way said, “It was time. I think because it was so special, and it was such an amazing thing… to keep going and let it rust out on the rails? That was not the way that band was supposed to go out.”
Unlike pop-punk band Panic! At the Disco, there wasn’t any reported drama between band members that caused the group’s split. Way said that the band members’ lives were growing in different directions and that it was time for the band to hit its end.
Almost a year later, the band released a final album with their greatest hits, titled, “May Death Never Stop You,” featuring song “Fake Your Death.”
In 2016, the group released a trailer celebrating the anniversary of their hit song “Welcome to the Black Parade.” Fans became excited at the idea of a possible reunion only three years after the split. Soon after, the band released a statement about the trailer only being a celebration and that they had no reunion plans in mind.
Apart from band members’ individually released music, the band has not released any signs that there would be any form of a reunion since 2016.
Tickets for the concert go up for sale at midnight on Nov. 1, and there is a two-ticket limit per customer.
