The Associated Student Body spring election came to an end as the winners of the runoff elections for president, vice president and several senate seats were announced on Thursday, March 28 at the Lyceum.
The runoff decided two executive positions, where Jackson Scruggs, a junior public policy leadership major and Hannah Watts, also a junior public policy leadership major, were candidates for ASB president. Junior international studies major Jacks Mitchell and sophomore economics major Jack Jones were running for vice president.
Watts won the presidential election, garnering 56.47% of the vote. Jack Jones took the vice president race with 53.42% of the vote.
Members from both campaigns as well as family members celebrated in the crowd as the results became public.
“I’m beyond thankful,” Watts said. “The Ole Miss community (is) coming together behind the idea of creating a brighter tomorrow for this university, and I’m ready to work alongside them to achieve that goal.”
Watts plans to use her newly acquired position to strengthen the student opinion form.
“Connecting students to ASB and our campus experience, empowering them both professionally and academically and engaging by meeting their immediate needs will be my priority,” Watts said.
Jones echoed Watts’ excitement and gratitude.
“I’m just excited and so grateful,” Jones said. “I think that what we’ve learned this week is that you can’t do this without a village, and I’m so grateful to my village for tonight. I couldn’t have done it without them,”
The winners of some ASB Senate races were also announced, including special interest, student governance, National Panhellenic Council and graduate school seats. The following senators were elected in their respective races.
