Online DeskYou know the feeling. You and your friends or your partner are sitting down to finally watch a spooky movie (definitions vary), and you spend more time than you want to disagreeing on what to watch. Once the movie is decided, everyone is too tired to actually enjoy it.
You’re in the right place if that phenomenon has been something consistent this fall. If you’re lucky, and it hasn’t, movie recommendations are still useful.
Let’s be real. If you like watching scary movies as much as I do, you know that finding a movie that actually creeps you out are slim to none.
Here are a few of my personal horror and non horror movies.
“Hocus Pocus”
This movie has it all: nostalgia, the old Disney we all want back, witches, zombies and a cat.
If you haven’t seen it before, you are definitely missing out.
The movie starts like all other ones with a middle schooler as the protagonist. Max moves to Salem, Massachusetts, and he is not exactly thrilled about it. In classic Disney fashion, he meets a girl, and the two of them — plus his younger sister — go on an adventure to stop a group of witches from becoming immortal.
This cinematic masterpiece has everything, and I will forever own it on DVD.
“A Nightmare on Elm Street”
We’re getting a little spookier here, folks: a mangled nightmare monster that also exists in real life. If you think you can sleep this off, you’re dead wrong.
One bad dream about Freddy Krueger and you look out for guys in red shirts wearing fedoras. Well, it should be mentioned that he also has a glove with knives attached, so there’s that.
This movie is not exactly my favorite, but it’s pretty darn close. It’s dated enough to not be modernly terrifying, yet still recent enough to give you a thrill.
“IT” and “IT: Chapter Two”
These are by far my favorite scary movies right now. Let’s dissect the differences for a moment.
“IT” is a horror movie with a killer clown who a group of kids fight off in the town of Derry. They are terrorized by him throughout the film and finally defeat him. This movie reminds me of a better version of “Riverdale.”
The filming is truly beautiful for a horror movie.
“IT: Chapter Two,” is a horrifying movie with a killer clown and a group of adults who have since forgotten their trials in Derry. They’re called from different places to return and finally put Pennywise the Clown in his resting place.
I’m not going to spoil anything, but this is close to three hours of what horror movies are supposed to be. As a person that’s not easily frightened, I can assure you that this came the closest to scaring me than any other movie.
