Column: Giving tech gifts on a budget

With the holiday seasons beginning, so is holiday shopping for those we hold most dear. Everyone knows that shopping for your favorite tech person can be tricky on a budget. In this holiday roundup, check out my favorite gadgets for the technology-obsessed person in your life on a college student budget.

Rocketbook Everlast Smart Notebook

The endless stack of paper notebooks can be frustrating. For messy notetakers, the linear format of Google Docs or Microsoft Word can be aggravating. Pick up this smart notebook instead; you can write notes by hand and then scan them into an app, erasing the pages neatly afterward. These notebooks are reusable, so they’re good for the environment. I’ll be picking up an extra for myself this season. Find it here for $29.99.

Leather Headphone Organizer

Untangling headphones is a daunting task if you just throw them in your pocket or purse. A small headphone organizer can be a lifesaver for the music lover in your life, and it makes a simple but thoughtful gift that is perfect for this holiday season. Pick one up here for $6.97.

USB-Connected Book Light

While a book light may not sound like a revolutionary piece of technology, for a night owl, a light on the keyboard or a notebook can be invaluable. This can be especially helpful for college freshmen; nobody likes a roommate who keeps the lights on all night. This particular book light charges using a USB port and clips on nicely to any book or laptop. Buy one here for $12.99.

Mpow Bluetooth Music Receiver

If your car radio doesn’t have Bluetooth yet, keeping yourself entertained during long trips can be tricky (especially for iPhone users) with the dilemma of charger versus aux cable. Instead, pick up this Bluetooth receiver so you can do both at once. Find one here for $19.99.

Bluetooth Arteck Keyboard

If you switch workspaces frequently, a Bluetooth keyboard can be a lifesaver. A Bluetooth keyboard with a LED backdrop, on the other hand, is the perfect gift for your on-the-go friends and family. Pick one up here for $19.99.
