Brooke BourgeoisKing’s is hosting a “Homecoming Throw Down” on Saturday night, complete with live entertainment and its signature steak and seafood cuisine.
“We’re looking to bring people out to come and have dinner with us and let us entertain them,” restaurant owner Adam Matthews said.
The Litigants, a Southern rock band composed of Ole Miss alumni, is set to perform at the venue between 9 and 11 p.m.
“It feels great to come and play at homecoming,” lead singer Will Smith said. “It’s a smaller venue for us, so the music will be more a sit-back, happy hour type deal.”
The restaurant plays live music on Thursday and Friday nights before home games and Saturdays in consideration of game time. The Litigants said they look forward to playing at this laid-back venue Saturday night.
“To be able to bring that band sound back into the new generation is a great objective for us,” Smith said. “We have our own kids this age, and we are really hoping to touch a younger crowd with our music. We want to give retrospect to the sound that we grew up with.”
The Litigants have performed in several venues in Oxford and surrounding areas. Only three members of the band will be playing in Saturday’s performance, and all three performers are former Ole Miss students. All of the musicians have a strong connection to Oxford, and they said they enjoy using performing as a way to give back and be a strong local presence in the community.
“Music is a passion and an expression,” Smith said. “It’s about the emotion when you are able to move the audience. It’s why we do what we do, and it’s why we love what we do.”
The band looks forward to entertaining the crowd with its style of music. It performs original songs as well as cover songs, and its genre is a combination of country, indie rock and classic rock. Smith describes the band’s music as bits of everything.
“It’s going to be a great vibe of local flare, lots of ‘90s inspiration from our generation,” Matthews said.
With only seven months of service, King’s is still on the rise, and Matthews said he hopes the event will bring light to the restaurant as the new place to be.
“You won’t have to fight the crowd in the Square,” Matthews said. “It’s a comfortable environment with plenty of parking. We are just looking to do extra for the locals and the students; it’s something different.”
The “come as you are” feel of the setting appeals as a restaurant, a wine bar and a pub. The restaurant is located at 1007 College Hill Road, just a mile from the Grove. Just out of reach of the Square’s common weekend commotion, its laid-back setting is a fresh take on Oxford nights.
The event celebrates the homecoming game against Vanderbilt, and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy some food and a live local band.
“We just want to get together and keep people past dinner to listen to some good music,” Matthews said.
