For Ole Miss wing Luis Rodgriuez, the injuries seem to be stacking on top of each other.
Head coach Kermit Davis said on Tuesday that the sophomore will need surgery on his wrist on Friday and is likely to miss an extended period of spring training after the season.
“We just found out about (the injury). It’s just something that maybe happened in the Texas scrimmage,” Davis said. “He was through it and just caught a ball the other day in practice when he just came back.”
Rodriguez had just returned to practice from a foot injury caused during shootaround before the Rebels’ game against Penn State last November in New York. Rodriguez started in all five games before the injury and averaged 23 minutes per game while seeing an expanded role as a plus defender and active rebounder for Davis.
Davis said that the injured foot had been healed when he tweaked his wrist in practice.
“If he was healthy, he’d be playing through it and have surgery after the season, but it’s something that they want to get fixed,” Davis said.
Rodriguez will have his third surgery in two years with the Rebels after injuries to his knee, foot and wrist.
“It’s too bad because we really, really wanted him out there for spring workouts after the season,” Davis said.
