The One Night Stand Art Show this Saturday will feature both local and out-of-town artists to showcase and sell their art at The Ole Miss Motel.
The art show will feature 15 different artists that will turn the motel rooms into small galleries of their work.
“Since that first show in 2007, 160 different artists have shown their work, several going on to land shows around the world, such as Jonathan Kent Adams, Frances Berry, Michael Foster, Britt Bass and Kate Roebuck,” curator Erin Austen Abbot said.
It also serves as a place for artists both local and out of town to showcase their portfolios and make new connections.
Some artists, like Adrienne Brown, have done the show before and are looking forward to it. Brown, an artist from Water Valley, Mississippi, became a recurrent member of the show five years ago and said she enjoys the atmosphere of the event.
“It is one of my favorite nights of the year,” Brown said. “It’s very laid back and very accessible to anyone who likes art, buys art or is just curious. I think it’s great for people who may feel a little intimidated by traditional gallery exhibitions.”
Kaylan Buteyn, an artist from Nashville, is participating in the show for the first time.
“I’m really looking forward to connecting with everyone in the Oxford community and meeting up with new collectors,” Buteyn said. “ It’s always a gift to get to have face-to-face experiences with people who enjoy my art and visit places where the arts are celebrated and appreciated. (I’m) hoping my paintings go home with some special people and families.”
Abbot commented about the community and learning experience that One Night gives to artists.
“It’s a place where artists can ask practical advice on pricing or learn how to hang work in an unusual setting, but also a place where they can get comfortable conceptualizing a body of work and then also test run a body of work,” she said.
Preview tickets for the show are available at the door. The show starts at 5 p.m. for $20, and free admission is from 6-9 p.m.
