OPD officer arrested in woman’s killing

An Oxford police officer has been arrested in connection with the killing of a woman, but officials aren’t saying what they’re charging him with.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Capt. Johnny Poulos says Oxford Police Officer Matt Kinne was arrested Monday night after 32-year-old Dominque Clayton killing was killed.

Poulos made the announcement on Tuesday flanked by interim Oxford Police Chief Matt McCutchen.

“We will not hide behind our badge,” McCutchen read from a prepared statement at the press conference. “This badge stands for justice, and today is about justice for Dominique. Dominique was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend and a member of our community.”

Kinne is jailed in neighboring Panola County. It’s unclear if he’s been formally charged with anything, has seen a judge, has a lawyer or has been given bail. McCutchen and Poulos aren’t immediately responding to messages seeking comment.

“It was discovered early on in the investigation that one of our officers, Matthew Kinne, a four-year officer with the Oxford Police Department, was possibly involved with Dominique,” McCutchen said.
