Going to the Square for drinks and a good time on the weekends is a favorite pastime for Ole Miss students. No one expects the night to end with a fight leading to a hospital visit and two arrests.
A video of a fight between two men and Northwest Community College student Jayden Adams at the popular bar Tango’s Patio and Kitchen began circulating on Saturday, Oct. 7.
Two men — Jonathon Thurman and Brayden Robbins — were arrested on misdemeanor charges according to Oxford Police Department Public Information Officer Breck Jones.
“We arrested two individuals on misdemeanor charges regarding that incident,” Jones said. “The victim did not sustain any long-term injuries that we are aware of at this time.”
The two men were charged with simple assault and released on bond according to a press release provided to The Daily Mississippian by Adams’ attorney, James Howard.
“An ambulance transported Adams to Baptist Memorial Hospital,” Howard said. “Adams is currently unavailable for comment because he is still recovering from extensive physical injuries and mental trauma.”
After several attempts to contact Tango’s, including phone calls, unreturned messages from Tango’s staff members and a short conversation with Tangos’ manager, Roman Votour, the establishment has not provided any comment on the incident. It is unclear whether the defendant employed by Tango’s at the time of the incident remains employed at the establishment.
Students and others in the community who frequent Tango’s were shocked by the events. Even though Tango’s is a popular spot among UM students, being one of the few 18-and-up bars, some students have expressed concerns for their safety.
“I didn’t really go to Tango’s much before, but I don’t know that I would feel as comfortable going now after hearing about this fight,” said Jesus Ramirez, a freshman social work major.
