Ole Miss third baseman Tyler Keenan finished second in the 2019 College Home Run Derby on Saturday, the best finish by a Rebel in the ten-year history of the event.

The slugger’s 40 total homers in the magic powder blue was runner up to Northern Kentucky’s Griffin Doersching, who blasted 51 over the fence. Keenan hit 12 in the opening round to advance to the second round, where he outhit Duke’s Micheal Rothenberg in a tiebreaker.

Keenan’s father, Jimmy Keenan, pitched to him throughout the competition.

The sophomore knocked 15 home runs during the 2019 season and was one of five finalists for the C Spire Ferris Trophy, awarded to the top college baseball player in Mississippi.

Keenan will continue to play for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod League this summer before returning to Oxford to play a significant role for the Rebels in the 2020 season.
